Professional Licensure Disclosure

Federal Regulation for State Authorization

Programs at the University of Oklahoma are designed to meet the educational requirements for professional licensure or certification in the state of Oklahoma. We encourage students who intend to pursue licensure or certification outside of Oklahoma to determine if there are additional requirements beyond degree completion by contacting the relevant state's licensing/certification body directly. 

 
 

COLLEGE OF ALLIED HEALTH

Communication Sciences & Disorders-MA Speech-Language Pathology

COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY
 
  Dental Hygiene

The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, curriculum follows the rules of the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) in preparing students for a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree.  The degree prepares graduates to sit for professional licensure.  The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry Dental Hygiene Bachelor of Science curriculum satisfies the educational requirements for graduates to apply for licensure in the State of Oklahoma.  University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry has not made a determination if the Dental Hygiene Bachelor of Science curriculum satisfies the educational requirements for any other States, U.S. territories, and/or protectorates.  Students should consult the Board of Dental Examiners in their state to confirm if the degree from OU College of Dentistry meets the criteria for professional licensure in their state.   Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS)

  Master of Science in Genetic Counseling
The Master of Science in Genetic Counseling is accredited through the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling. Graduates of the program are eligible to apply for Active Candidate Status through the ABGC and to sit for the Board Certification Examination that is recognized in all states: https://www.abgc.net/research-resources/state-licensure/.
  Orthodontics (MS)
The Master of Science in Orthodontics program is accredited by the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), and as such, meet the requirements for licensure in all fifty states and the District of Columbia.
 
  Periodontics (MS)
The Master of Science in Periodontics program is accredited by the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), and as such, meet the requirements for licensure in all fifty states and the District of Columbia.
 
COLLEGE OF MEDICINE
 
  Physician Associate - OKC

The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Physician Associate Program is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). OUHSC PA graduates are eligible to sit for the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Successful passage of this examination is required for physician assistant state licensure in the United States. Physician Assistant - Tulsa
The University of Oklahoma School of Community Medicine Physician Assistant Program is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). OU SCM PA graduates are eligible to sit for the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Successful passage of this examination is required for physician assistant state licensure in the United States.   Medicine (MD)

The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine (OUCOM) MD program is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. OUCOM medical students are eligible to sit for the United States Medical Licensure Examination delivered by the National Board of Medical Examiners. Successful completion of this multi-step examination is required for medical licensure in the United States. COLLEGE OF NURSING
 
  Nursing (BSN)
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program meets the requirements for professional licensure in Oklahoma.  We are unable to determine if the program meets the requirements for professional licensure in the remaining states.  However, the program is working to determine reciprocity in these states. 
 
  Nursing (MSN)
The Master of Science in Nursing program meets the requirements for professional licensure in Oklahoma.  We are unable to determine if the program meets the requirements for professional licensure in the remaining states.  However, the program is working to determine reciprocity in these states. 
 
 

Nursing (DNP)
The Doctor of Nursing Practice program meets the requirements for professional licensure in Oklahoma.  We are unable to determine if the program meets the requirements for professional licensure in the remaining states.  However, the program is working to determine reciprocity in these states.

  Pharmacy (PharmD) 
The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program meets the requirements for professional licensure in Oklahoma.  We are unable to determine if the program meets the requirements for professional licensure in the remaining states.  However, the program is working to determine reciprocity in these states. 
 
COLLEGE OF PUBLIC HEALTH
 
  Master of Public Health (MPH)
The Master of Public Health (MPH) program meets the criteria to sit for the Certification in Public Health (CPH) exam, which requires a Council of Education for Public Health (CEPH) approved program.  Government employers (local, state and federal levels) are increasingly moving in the direction of requiring the CPH credential to work, especially at the master’s level (MPH).
