Transfer Credit and Equivalency

Transfer credit earned by students at institutions accredited by the HLC or the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education will be accepted for transfer at face value. Credits earned at institutions accredited by organizations other than the HLC and recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be reviewed on a course-by-course basis and may be accepted for transfer if the course is determined to be substantially equivalent to a University of Oklahoma course or courses.

Courses that have no OU equivalent may substitute for required courses or transfer as elective credit. Each degree-granting college will initially evaluate all transfer courses for substitution or equivalency and determine how each course will apply toward the University of Oklahoma Health Campus degree. If a transfer course has not been previously approved for OU equivalency, students are encouraged to complete the Petition for Transfer Course Review Form (pdf) and provide a syllabus of the course under review. The instructions and mailing address are included on the form. Use one form for each course to be reviewed.

The Office of Admissions and Recruitment review these petitions to determine equivalency. Once a determination is made by the University, the petitioner will be notified.

Program Prerequisites

Applicants must be in the process of successfully completing a minimum of 60-67 semester hours of required coursework to fulfill State Regents, university and departmental requirements. Check with the degree-granting college/department for a comprehensive list of prerequisites.

General Education Requirements

A minimum of 40 credit hours of general education courses is required for graduation. Click here for a list of courses approved for general education credit

Military Service Credit

The University awards credit for educational experience during military service according to the recommendations of the American Council on Education as published in "The Guide to the Evaluation of Military Experiences in the Armed Services." Policies governing the acceptance of credit awarded for military experience toward satisfying degree requirements vary among the degree-granting colleges of the University. Students should contact their college academic advisement office for specific information on the applicability of this type of credit toward degree requirements. General questions concerning the evaluation of educational experience in the armed services should be directed to Recruitment and Admissions.

The grade of S (satisfactory) is assigned to all credit awarded for military training.
Students may submit the following military records to verify successful completion of military training to Recruitment and Admissions for review:

Army, Navy, and Marine Corps - Submit an official Joint Services Transcript. To request a Joint Services Transcript be sent electronically to the University you may visit https://jst.doded.mil/official.html.

Air Force – To request an official transcript from the Community College of the Air Force for work taken as an undergraduate or from Air University for work taken as a graduate, a written request must be sent to CCAF/DESS, 100 South Turner Blvd., Maxwell AFB, Gunter Annex, AL 36114. For the Air University, mail request form to Air University Registrar (AU/CFR), 60 Shumacher Ave., Maxwell AFB, AL 36112. DANTES/USAFI — Students may also request a transcript from DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support) or USAFI (United States Armed Forces Institute -- tests taken prior to July 1, 1974). Many tests taken under the auspices of DANTES or USAFI carry American Council on Education credit recommendations recognized by the University. Academic Forgiveness Provisions for Undergraduate Coursework

The University of Oklahoma Health Campus is excluded from participation in the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) Academic Forgiveness Provisions including repeat, reprieve, and renewal. Therefore, all grades earned will be included in grade point calculations when applying for acceptance to an OU Health Campus program. OU Health Campus student undergraduate coursework is included in this policy. {OSRHE Approved: 6-21-93}

Prior Learning Assessment Credits

The University of Oklahoma Health Campus adheres to credit recommendations outlined by the University of Oklahoma for AP, CLEP, Excelsior College Examinations, IB, Departmental Examinations, and Military Credit. Prior learning assessment credit posted on transcripts from all appropriately accredited institutions will be accepted by the University as long as the credit was earned through one of the prior learning assessment mechanisms mentioned above.
